Hannah Smith is an Associate in our Charleston office, and she concentrates her practice on Professional Liability Defense, Design and Construction Litigation, and General Liability Defense. Prior to joining CSVL Hannah served as the Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Judge Deadra L. Jefferson, Chief Administrative Judge of General Sessions for the Ninth Circuit, 2021-2022. Hannah gained invaluable legal research and writing skills and court procedural experience during her clerkship.

Hannah is a St. Louis, MO native, graduated from the University of Mississippi with her Bachelor of Applied Science degree and a minor in Spanish, a Chancellor’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List recipient, and a founding member of Alpha Phi at Ole Miss. Hannah earned a Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from Charleston School of Law. During law school, Hannah served as the Student Works Editor of the Charleston Law Review, the Associate Justice of External Competitions of the Moot Court Board, a Senior Teaching Fellow for the Legal Research and Writing Department, and a Library Research Fellow at the Sol Blatt Jr. Law Library. Hannah was also a Presidential Scholar and Dean’s List recipient. After finishing her first year of law school, Hannah was awarded the Best Brief at Charleston School of Law’s Internal Moot Court Competition. Hannah also was honored with the publication of her law school Note – Statutory Ambiguity: Who Makes the Final Call? The Centuries Long Judicial Battle with Interpretation and the Elusive Conclusions to Solve Ambiguity. Aside from serving as the Associate Justice of External Competitions, Hannah was an active participant on Charleston School of Law’s Moot Court Board, competing in the JESSUP International Moot Court Competition where her team earned a spot as Semi-Finalists and placed among the Top 5 Memorials for their written briefs. Hannah also participated, as a brief writer, in the Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition, where her brief won second place.

In her spare time, Hannah enjoys spending time with family and friends, being on the water, and traveling. During football season, you can catch Hannah watching her beloved Ole Miss Rebels – there is truly no place like a football Saturday spent in the Grove. Hotty Toddy!
