Vision Statement

Copeland, Stair, Valz & Lovell recognizes the importance of diversity in the workplace, and provides an environment where people can work together as respected professionals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. We believe that creating a diverse workplace allows our attorneys and staff to thrive which, in turn, benefits our clients.


At CSVL we are committed to attracting, retaining and promoting professionals from all backgrounds. We believe diversity is more than a statistic; it is a core value that is vital to our Firm’s culture. To ensure this diverse culture is perpetuated, we have created a committee consisting of Partners, Associates and Executives who meet regularly to lead and manage our Firm’s goals and objectives.

Attorney Development

We provide the following opportunities for our attorneys in an effort to create an environment where they can grow and expand their talents:

  • Regular educational seminars for Associates;
  • Internal mentoring;
  • Support for activism within the community and legal organizations and associations,
  • Personal experience to develop and hone professional skills; and
  • External seminars and conferences to aid professional development.

Community Involvement

We support diversity in the workplace, and within our community as well. Through sponsorships, individual memberships, leadership roles and volunteer work, our team is actively involved in creating a diverse community.

Programs and Certifications

As of June 2021, several CSVL professionals have completed training devoted to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Most recently Chattanooga Managing Partner Angela Kopet, Associate Erika Hughes and our Firm Administrator Michelle M. Woodward received certification through The University of South Florida Muma College of Business, by completing their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certification Program.

August of 2021, CSVL Charleston Associate and D&I committee member Arden Lowndes was successfully completed Diversity Leaders Initiative (DLI), an award-winning program of Furman University’s Riley Institute.
